for the 5th installment in the prrukwht series, spanish hardware icon eduardo de la calle returns to planet rhythm with his adept to the light ep. tr3b conspiracy serves as the opener which combines odd rhythmic arps and subtly placed drum sequences to make a somewhat uncanny atmosphere. on the b side we find ranchor will cut the mood which is a repetitive techno cut that should be useful for after hours. the doubt of the unknown (b2) has a somewhat foreboding title. it’s a fx heavy synth jam that uses oddball synthesis and nicely placed fx chains that evolve throughout.

deep88 presents his new lp ‘the black album’. this double-vinyl houses his personal style that is reminiscent of the sounds of a bygone era whether the depth and warmth of new jersey and italian house, a dose of sun-soaked balearic or primitive raw jams synonymous with chicago.

when we started heist a few years back, our idea was to give a stage to talent in a same way as we have had a helping hand by the labels that have supported us from the beginning. therefore, i’s our pleasure to share this release with you by newcomers ouer, a berlin based duo with only a handful of tracks out so far on their self released debut last year. their approach to producing is very much jam based, and with a compact collection of synths, drum machines and a fair level of distortion, they succeed in creating their own sound with hints of classic electronic music from chicago and detroit. theres a nice mix of energy on the whole ep, the ascent being the most driving track of the package. fans of classics mcde tracks will love show off with its dreamy dx7 style chords and cracking acid lines. move over feels like a jam session that was way too much fun with some lovely solo work on the synths, whereas mess around goes down in similar free-ride style on the synths and again, has some lovely sampling going on. an impressive ep were just all too happy to have on our label. sincerely yours, lars & maarten

elephant moon continues its steady schedule of releases with a brand new ep from label owner john dimas and danish talent samuel andre madsen (aka s.a.m). on this fresh new release we re treated to two tracks from monsieur dimas and two from s.a.m. to open we have a quirky little space jam called moon patrol by john dimas. it has chunky percussion at its foundation with off-key chimes and cosmic pads giving it an interstellar feel. samuel s reshaped for moonwalk mix puts john s mix on a diet, making it far lighter and focusing on the ethereal elements turning it into a sweet galactic ditty. on the flip we get a sombre bossa nova ride from s.a.m., all jazzy with a grooving bassline and galloping beats. its a cool, laid back riddim from the dane and were sure youll love it. john dimas gives the track his own monday mix, bringing the tempo down even more and crafting a delicate heady rework.

it’s been some time since the last black jukebox edition came out. this time shir khan hits us with the 14th edition featuring onsra & bas roos. secret parisian project onsra came out of nowwhere with his debut track funky town‘ which was the best selling track on exploited last year - topping tons of charts. support did come from various djs such as disclosure, danny krivit, laurent garnier, dj sneak, luke solomon, adriatique, terranova, ardalan, ben pearce, friendly fires, xxxxy, miguel campbell, jaques renault, rainer trueby, dj t to mention a few. now he is back with 2 new joints - so good is a 112bpm loopbased disco house jam which reminds a bit of old soundstream records. other day is a real boogie joint. bas roos on the flip is a newbie and youngster from rotterdam with a fresh residency at toffler club keeping things smooth and mellow with searchin’ and don’t let go the disco limited collector s vinyl only. cop that before it sells out.

here comes another release by echologist aka brendon moeller. brendon did several releases over the year and here comes the next bomb!! these tracks were recorded in autumn of 2016 in brendon’s home studio that is conveniently located in the basement of his home in upstate new york. the tracks were made using a combination of hardware and software. the protocol, well, sync all machines via midi and cv and then jam. once a jam seems to take on a form he multitrack record all elements in ableton and then create a final arrangement and mix down.

maeve is the record label run by three close friends, mano le tough, the drifter and baikal. for maeve’s eighth outing it has enlisted the talents of long time friend ed davenport. the record grew from a chance hearing of some new material at eds studio one night and after a brief discussion it was decided that the tracks would find a fitting home at maeve. although recently more known for his harder techno releases under the moniker inland, silver walks is some what a return to eds roots. slower, emotive, more contemplative tracks, recorded over a pretty short period of focused studio time. silver walks is a synth-led jam. the arpeggiator holds pride of place as the centre of the tune with filter tweaks complementing its progression. kuromaku has a tougher attitude - heady and cosmic with a deep kick. it means black curtain in japanese.

jacking chicago tracks on this first ep by offenbach s freshmen am unit containing three original tracks plus a solid remix by lauer (one half of tuff city kids). a-sided gotta slow down and hold back are classic examples of dancefloor fillers while b-sided raw jam is a hard and super effective acid track that leaves no-one indifferent. the dub mix of gotta slow down by lauer is an oscillating interpretation of the original track with an efficient piano line! limited to 400 hand stamped and numbered copies!

the mysterious but widely acclaimed r-zone series roll on to a 15th ep now with a new four track release that is as essential as ever. opener hired gun is a tough and raw concoction with coarse, snappy snares, rough drum pings and lots of abrasive texture all making for a physical listening experience. midwinter is a deeper and more emotive jam with warm pads dampening down icy hi hats and busy synth work. it is fresh and original and sounds like little else, then captive gets all deep and space-y with smeared pads and slick metallic hits tied together with a molten acid line. lastly, exile is five blissful and beautiful minutes of atmospheric, intergalactic electronic sounds that really take you to another place

it’s been a while but hey-ho, coincidence is back on vinyl. the tracks we got from aussie based female dj trinity were simply too analog sounding, so slapping it on wax was the logical thing to do. the vinyl release adds remixes by two of our alltime heroes - steve stoll and daniela la luz. basically: the originals are deep and darkish, the steve stoll rework is a rework in one smooth jam so with plenty of energy while daniela’s version does it really smart and housey. so on with the friggin show!

keeping up the urgent pace set by the strength in numbers collection, thema now turns to a modern master of the jakbeat, d’marc cantu. hailing from ann arbor on the fringes of detroit, cantu has worked for more than a decade developing a sound that carries the torch from the box jam originators of techno and house music. his first appearances were alongside the mighty tadd mullinix (better known as james t. cotton) with their 2 am/fm project, before bringing traxx into the fold for the x2 venture. as a solo artist cantu has shored up on labels as highly regarded as crème organization, m>o>s, nation and desire, bringing a rich, full-bodied sound laden with powerful synth hooks, crafty drum programming and a live, jammed-out delivery that overflows with imagination. given his adventurous tendencies and punchy midwestern finish, cantu is a perfect fit on thema and the six tracks that make up this record show a great deal of the diversity the man is capable of, from dancefloor burners to atmospheric introspections.

e present the first of three 12inches to celebrate our 10th anniversary. for the a side dam swindle radically rework sometimes into not another sometimes, a killer raw analogue jam that demonstrates a real development of the ds sound. for the b1 we re buzzing to finally release an original track from matthew styles, who s been on remix duties 3 times over the years, with the infectious house of jungle fever. last and by no means least the carter bros give us tempting disco fate, a rolling disco loop with the mother of all bassline changes at the end of the track. look out for part two dropping in april featuring a jimpster edit of galcher lustwerk, fort romeau remixing the first ever tsuba release from williams and a tsuba debut from roy comanchero.

by all accounts, whiskey disco has matured. each release unique, but compiled meticulously to meet some of the highest standards in the edit community. wd45 continues the trajectory with 4 tracks combining equal parts soul, boogie and disco. rastanils cuts up cheesy obscurity to reveal heavy disco vibes—this edit was smashed by mcde at numerous festivals in 2015. next up, the intriguing corsican brothers reappear after a 5 year absence from whiskey disco with a sliced version of i like it, beefed up bass and space on the platters with a touch of dub. side b exemplifies the weirdness only a b-side can… albions disco chopper is a stretched and phased party jam that does not stop. move to the inside for the lengthy and epic big time, a 9 minute exploration into rocking disco roots, courtesy of the eponymously named blaxploitation movie from 1977.

for our 9th instalment, holdie gawn takes the lead and is delivering his first solo ep for sylphe, while micawber takes a break. on the a-side, holdie gawns natural habitat, we find yborg, a 12 minute long piece of darker, glitched-up techno which moves slowly yet forcefully. expanding into a terrain of bleeps and dissonant harmonies, ‘’yborg’’ number remains loyal to the twisted sylphe electronics we have been used to. on the b side we have t & t, a rolling, broken beat swingy techno-house jam which grooves effortlessly and shows a different of holdie. wonky, bubbling basslines and stretched voices complete the mosaic of holdie’s the first b side. our 9th release will be out in time for our 3rd birthday, around mid-late february

a 12 stuffed to the brim with music by c.k & timeman, dj sports, optic & maizena!!! rhythmical ambient house music á la izquierda! on a1 timeman (central) and c.k (of 2 bit crew) pick up the thread of rb02 and can be enjoyed in uninterrupted continous play for a full 22 minute listening experience. a2 is a floating groovy ambient’ish jam by the other half of 2 bit crew, optic. rb’s youngboy dj sports delivers a slowmotion jungle track for a lightweight dancefloor moment on the flipside. b2 is an extended version of the monotonus soft-house-beauty tiny music by the group maizena.

mono junks dum records has been dictating trends in the world of minimalistic techno since the 1990s, and its 34th release is as special as any. this one comes from label boss kimmo rapatti aka mono junk vs mesak, who is better known as fellow finn, tatu metsätähti, aka one half of mr velcto fastener and someone who has released on dexter & steffis klakson. together the pair serve up three mixes of their jam and an additional track. title track deep in my mind is a paranoid techno cut with freaky vocal riffs repeating the title as gurgling synth lines and sleek drums rumble below. twitchy synths and high pressure perc add to the hypnotic effect, and overall its easy to see this one making for some perfectly weird dance floor moments. the mix by mono junk is completely the opposite: in his hands it is a beat-less, serene and beautifully styled electro cut that takes you deep into brain soothing space. the electro mind version is then a full on electro jam, with plenty of aqueous synths and fluid lines all squiggling along in classic detroit style. final track sysdrum is back to the raw, with angsty drum lines, crisp and slapping snares and oodles of reverb all making for a brain frying trip.

french label d3 elements returns to chicago for its next ep, this time looking to the assured house talents of hakim murphy for three tracks of raw, dense grooves right from the heart of the windy city. opener boxbeat is a curious, freaky jam with bobbing percussive hits, wonky, pixel thin synth lines and free roaming pads that wrap the whole thing in a nice sense of spaced-out serenity. taste o rainbow has a much more firmly planted kick drum that pounds away uninterrupted below a free flowing brew of modulate synth sounds. it s expertly reduced and masterfully reserved and is sure to send dance floors wild as a result. the flipside cut freshness has pinging drums and a big, frazzled bass line as slithering chords rain down the face. musical yet jacking, cosmic yet propulsive, it is a perfectly contemporary chicago house sound that rounds out a fine ep from one of the best in the game.

heard on “melancholia” are interpretations of honzo’s subconscious visions of life. the intense compositions are made up of drones, noises and distorted beats moving in and out of the frame. on opener “orientalism” said elements blend with hi-hat brushes, brassy synth pads, sci-fi noises and distant human voices evoking islam’s “adhan” (call to prayer). the theme contemplates over alienation caused by western accounts of “orientalism”, soaked in “hüzün” (the turkish term for melancholia). on a2 a rework of “moral masochism” is provided by the mysterious shadows outfit, starting with a distorted guitar over a slow and gritty rhythmic backbone which gradually turns into a chaotic high-intensity acid jam on the ep’s most dance floor suitable cut. on the flipside, “lovesickness” presents a broken kick rhythm periodically flipped by toms and accompanied by a disorienting hi-hat rhythm, ghostly strings and sporadic human moans – all resulting in a tribal mood, recalling a ceremony, perhaps a quest for a saviour from the blue temper? b2 presents the “moral masochism” original. again a distorted guitar plays over a slow rhythm, but compared to the remix, the original’s intensity is introverted, contemplating over melancholia’s effect of deriving gratification from self-inflicted moral humiliation. ambient closer “emptiness” explores a cold state with such an encapsulating airiness that it feels like a close account of another person’s mood down to the impression of their breath. arpeggiated synth noises appear from a distance representing increasing pressure from the outside world without ever suppressing the state of mind. as a result, “emptiness” sums up the state of melancholia experienced as a mood rather than the effect of a cause.

soooo here we are with the tenth and final release, thought it would be nice to finish on a nice zen like number, so this is a extra special release kind of a mini lp almost -opened up by fx mchn flush the trush is an intro to the comp and a reverse funk skittish affair next up is new man on the block for us here we been sitting on a collection of his tracks but felt this one complemented this ep the most, ecco foul, gloss is a sleazy machine groove that does t do much but thats just the way we like it .then comes mr facade with his jerky funk sweet surprises and warm melodies. the b side is opened by another newcomer from running back record hugh mane new age dawns whose track come s deep and wide open has to be heard on the headphones as well as the club jamie blanco s chord arrangments get opened up and spaced out by lht office boy toby tobias in a detroitesque ditty thats been used to open a few sets in 2015 already and finally alphonse delivers an out and out machine jam with the usual dub influence brought in vocal fashion.

garrett david and adam rowe return to stripped & chewed with an accomplished new ep, “now that we are here, where are we?”. also known as the bell boys, the pair were last seen on a funky electro 7” for star creature following 2013’s “hotel garma ep” for discovery recordings. this new five track record finds the chicago-based duo making major strides forward in their already rather mature sound, fusing razor-sharp rhythms with plush melodies informed by deep knowledge of house music history – no surprise from two buyers for chicago institution gramaphone records.

if you ve followed local talk thru the years you ve most likely noticed how we like to throw a few curve-balls every now and then. for our 65th release we ve got gomma boss mathias modica aka munk and ndatl head honcho kai alce sharing the black gold. two producers with their own unique style presenting something special. while munk s original version of hot medusa is a shimmering and warm head-nodding & toe-tapping jam, the remix by mr alce is deep, soulful and musically rich house. two very different takes on one track, take your pick. on the flip munk delivers purple dust. this time he s upped the tempo a few bpm s, accompanied by a deep bassline with lush melodic synths and chords. mr alce ends the 12- with a dub of hot medusa which is brilliant from start to finish. another highly recommended and essential release.

ltd pressing, straight from sao paulo, the debut ep of sphynx (aka marcio vermelho and pedro zopelar) is undoubtedly pure balearic bliss! intricate masterful compositions fascinate with live guitar, drum machines and vintage synths combined in a harmonious arrangement. without the use of any samples, sphynx constructs the perfect soundtrack for every sunset between ipanema and ibiza. no ar captivates through its unforgettable bassline and dreamy synths, while enigma shows the producers love for spheric new beat and proto house. on the flipside, tempestade explores the realm of electro rock, while toby tobias remix transforms the title track, with rough drums and the synth work, into a psychedelic uptempo jam.

chicago style featuring whooshing strings, grinding bass and generally heavily elevating vibes. flipping over to side b things quickly get deeply hypnotic and very acidic indeed courtesy of pagan ritual’s squelching and jacking box-jam ‘think like me’, another bomb no doubt destined to sit in many a dj-bag for a long time.

parisian label escapade launches with a four-track 12inch by yuri shulgin. the russian artist first appeared in 2010 under the mistanomista moniker on the italian label black sunshine. he later released three records under his real name, first on anton zaps ethereal sound, then on black wall and finally on modernista.
